We were able to get outside and do a nature-based scavenger hunt this week! This was such a fun activity, and something I did during my first practicum. However, the one I did over my practicum was just images of different things you would find in nature. I am adding the scavenger hunt that we did this week, because of the connection to literacy!
The Scavenger Hunt
- We were given a piece of paper (bingo sheet) with different letters on it, and even had some duplicate letters.
- We were put into pairs or small groups.
- We then went outside and were tasked to find a natural object that starts with that letter.
- We went for a blackout, but we could also do any bingo combination.
- There were so many amazing extensions to this activity – we could find an object that started with that letter, and adjective to describe a natural object we saw, or do alliterations!

AHA Moment
Although scavenger hunts are nothing new to me, I loved the alphabet based scavenger hunt. It was very fun for me, as an adult, so I know it would be even more fun for children of any age! I also liked that it was a cross-curricular activity, and a simple and fun way to incorporate nature based learning.
