I have been reflecting on activities we have done in class a lot, and one that still stands out to me is one we did at the beginning of the semester – a peer bingo, with each box being related to science.
AHA Moment
This was such a fun activity! It was a great way to circulate and get to know each other, and I would love to do it in my own classroom one day! It sparks conversations and wonder, while allowing students an opportunity to get to know each other. It could be done with questions for a specific unit, or the curriculum as a whole. The questions/tasks on the bingo card can be tailored for the grade it is being used in, for example, questions for a grade 5 science class could be:
- Find someone who knows a fact about a machine, write the fact and person who shared it.
- Find someone who has broke a bone, write their name and the bone they broke.
- Find someone who has a science wonder, and write it below.
These questions are not only connected to the Grade 5 Science Content, but also the curricular competencies and big ideas in the B.C. Science 5 curriculum.
I hope to do this activity in my own classroom one day!
